“Phren” is the third release of Opale, a series curated by Maple Death and publishing house Canicola Edizioni, sister imprints that for last decade have been exploring and researching the intersection of music and narrative through images and sound, giving life to new dialogues between the two languages, with a visionary and militant approach. Each Opale release will see the parallel production of an LP and illustrated book, linked together by a red thread that runs through atmospheres, emotional temperatures, glimpses of content, and collected in a precious limited edition box set that include posters and unique designs. Marta Salogni & Stefano Pilia’s album is accompanied by artwork, images and a 32 page Singer stitch binding illustrated book/carnet d’artiste by Sarah Mazzetti. Sarah Mazzetti is an Italian illustrator and visual artist whose work moves between drawing, publishing and visual storytelling. Her illustrations have appeared in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Die Zeit and The Guardian, and she has collaborated with brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dr. Martens. She is the author of several illustrated books, including works published by Canicola Edizioni. Her practice explores the relationship between narrative, memory and imagined worlds.

Marta Salogni
Marta Salogni is a record producer, engineer, mixer, and sonic artist working from her Studio Zona in London.
She has worked with artists such as Björk, Bon Iver, Depeche Mode, Damon Albarn, Black Midi, Valentina Magaletti, English Teacher, Squid, Animal Collective, Alessandro Cortini, Holly Herndon, and Circuit des Yeux.
Alongside her work in recorded music, she performs improvised and composed live sets using tape machines as instruments, creating loops, feedback, and delays through the manipulation of both live and prepared sounds.
She has performed at numerous venues and festivals across the UK and Europe, including Café OTO (London), Teatro San Fedele (Milan), Le Guess Who? (Utrecht), Jazz Is Dead (Turin), and Robot Festival (Bologna).
Her compositions have been released on the labels Hands in the Dark (with Music for Open Spaces, alongside Tom Relleen), Melos Kalpa, and Canti Magnetici (with L'ebbrezza delle grandi profondità, alongside Francesco Fonassi).
Stefano Pilia
Stefano Pilia is a guitarist, producer, and composer whose work explores the sculptural properties of sound and its relationship with space, time, and memory.
He has been a founding member and collaborator in numerous influential projects spanning improvisation, electroacoustic music, and avant-rock, including 3/4HadBeenEliminated, In Zaire, Il Sogno del Marinaio, Massimo Volume, and Afterhours.
Over the years he has collaborated with Adrian Utley, Mike Watt, Valerio Tricoli, Silvia Tarozzi, Anthony Pateras, Alessandra Novaga, Katia and Marielle Labèque, David Tibet, David Grubbs, Rokia Traoré, Oren Ambarchi, John Parish, Fire! Orchestra, Erik K Skodvin (Svarte Greiner), Scanner, Gianluigi Toccafondo, Wu Ming, Phill Niblock, David Maranha, and many others.
His extensive discography has been released by internationally respected labels including Die Schachtel, Maple Death, Improved Sequence, Blue Chopsticks, and Black Truffle.
